From Munich To Vegas By Way Of Cuba

Creating a 400-year-old authentic German experience in the heart of Las Vegas was no easy task. Sure, the beer and pretzels were tough enough to get exactly right, but just imagine the pitfalls involved in trying to get the architecture and painting true to the original Hofbrauhaus in Munich, Germany.

While the architectural style with all its nuances and diversity could be recreated through careful design and planning, how do you get those original magnificent hand-painted ceilings recreated at the Las Vegas location? After all, Las Vegas is capital of the “immersive” experience and it needed to be perfect.

Since Michelangelo wasn’t available, Grizel Herhold was our next choice.

Cuban-born Grizel was shipped a collection of photos from the original Hofbrauhaus in Munich. She then created style boards and samples, mimicking the original work.

That was the easy part.

From there, she spent 30 days nearly 30 feet in the sky painting for 12 to 15 hours a day. This was quite a feat considering there were no windows yet, no electricity and she had to work into the night and at the mercy of Las Vegas’ blustery winter winds.

Working in oil, she painstakingly recreated images from the original German brewhaus by hand, capturing even the smallest details.

The results speak for themselves.

Visitors to our Haus are treated to a one-of-a-kind authentic German experience, including the amazing architecture and paintings. The attention to detail will take your breath away while the amazing food and German beer will surely bring it back!
